Lifeguard Data Collection

The first phase of our work on lifeguard data collection was recently published in Injury Prevention.

Check out the peer-reviewed manuscript here: Need for consistent beach lifeguard data collection: results from an international survey.

The journal editors also asked us to draft a blog reviewing the project and what we found. You can read all about the project and what the results mean here: Beach lifeguards save lives with data – current status and future directions

Next steps? Response from the survey participants and other lifeguard mangers have been overwhelmingly positive. Many have expressed interest to move forward with work seeking to standardise data terminology between lifeguard organisations. As of November 2020, Rob and Will have been planning next steps, including seeking out advice from other researchers who have attempted similar consensus development type projects in drowning prevention and lifesaving. If you are a lifeguard in a leadership position and are keen to be involved, let us know here.  Stay tuned for future updates in this space!
